The next meeting is this Sunday, a spring walk around Thorpe Marsh NR. Meet at 10.15 at the level crossing on Applehurst Lane, Thorpe-in-Balne, DN6 0DZ. Map reference: SE594100. Note-this is different from on the programme. The leader is Mick Townsend. Please don’t be late because for safety, Mick wants everyone to cross the level crossing together, it’s a crossing where you have to phone a number to make sure there isn’t a train coming.

A message from Mick:

The only vehicular entrance at the moment is through Nicholsons’ Farm.
I shall meet people at Nicholsons’ Farm (SE594100) and direct them to the level crossing where another warden will see them across.  The meadows are very muddy so I shall walk mainly along tracks – round the Mere and along the embankments. Good footwear is essential, I shall wear wellies.
We shall start at 10.30 and finish about two hours later.
Summer migrant birds are here as well as residents and five species of butterflies have been seen so far.
